Wamp Lauds Constitutional Process

December 6, 2000

We are truly blessed to live in such a wonderful country where one of our core strengths is the election process followed by a peaceful transfer of power. But this year there is a sense of national anxiety as we wait to see who will become our 44th President. Americans are enduring a very frustrating process as directed by the Florida Supreme Court when the justices decided to change Florida's election laws in the middle of the recount.

This process has been a complete debacle with one misstep leading to another. All of the votes have been counted and recounted and the results have now been certified. Dangerous precedents are being set as one candidate holds the rest of the country hostage while he looks for votes in order to change the outcome of this election. These actions are jeopardizing our free and open election process, and people are losing faith in our legal system.

You can count on me to stand up for justice, the United States Constitution and the integrity of votes cast on Election Day should the election be decided by the U.S. House of Representatives.
