Legislation Would Correct Flaw in Montgomery G.I. Bill

July 23, 2004

An education is one of the most significant investments someone can make, personally and professionally.  Congress should do all it can to make it easier for veterans and service members to pay tuition bills.

When the Montgomery G.I. Bill became law, the soldiers who opted out of the old Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP) were barred from the new program.  The Veterans Affairs Committee is presently writing legislation to correct this flaw in the Montgomery G.I. Bill.  I look forward to supporting a bill that will make this correction.

The United States Congress can and should do more and I will continue to fight for more education dollars coming out of Washington to help those in our armed forces and our veterans pay for education.
