Wamp Supports Freedom, Not Historical Allies

March 5, 2003

When asked about the lack of French support for the U.S. stance on Iraq, former deputy Undersecretary of Defense Jed Babbin quipped, "Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion.  You just leave a lot of useless, noisy baggage behind." While this quote is certainly meant to be humorous, I agree with the sentiment.

Former communist countries, such as Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, which are still fresh with memories of tyranny and terror have come out in support of the United States.  It is disheartening that countries such as France and Germany have forgotten what it was like to live under the dictatorship of an evil man.  How quickly they forget that many of their allies came to their own defense not for material gain, but for their freedom.

The United States has a long-standing friendship with these countries.  Because of this friendship, I am still hopeful that these countries will change their minds and stand together with us for the supremacy of good over evil.
