The first amendment to the Constitution protects the freedom of the press, and Congress must uphold the Constitution.  Freedom of the press is fundamental to keeping the American public well informed.  The press must remain free and independent of government influence. 

For this reason, I am cosponsoring the Free Flow of Information Act, which will allow journalists to protect the identity of their confidential sources.  Journalist must be able to protect their sources or they will be much less likely to share information with a journalist and the public’s access to that information will halt.
