We must use and manage our national forests wisely

August 17, 2001

We must use and manage our national forests wisely so the next generation of Americans may enjoy the beauty that was passed down to us.

The Forest Service has put the implementation of the Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which would restrict logging and road building in 58.5 million acres of national forest lands, on hold because it's been challenged in court in eight separate lawsuits. In the meantime, the Forest Service is soliciting comments from the public to help better manage roadless areas in the future.

You can log on to http://www.roadless.fs.fed.us for current information about the contested rule and to find out how to submit your comments.
