Allowing Illegal Immigrants Drivers' Licenses Compromises National Security

July 13, 2004

The number of immigrants entering this country is astounding.  In every village, in every country, on every continent people need to know that the hope and opportunities in America will ONLY be afforded to those willing to obey our laws and who legally pursue permission to enter our country

Allowing illegal aliens to have a driver's license gives them access to social services and voter registration while making it easier for a potential terrorist to establish a false identity.  That is why I am a cosponsor of the State Accountability and Identity Fraud Elimination Act of 2004, H.R. 3052, which would withhold federal highway funds to any state that allows an illegal aliens access to a driver's license.

Congressman Tancredo of Colorado introduced an amendment to the Homeland Security Appropriations Act that would prohibit funds to any State or local government that restricts information about the citizenship or immigration status of any individual.  Though it failed to pass the House, I strongly supported his amendment.

We must do all we can to protect our homeland.
