"Stop Wasting Taxpayer Dollars"

The United States Army, the greatest Army that this world has ever known, currently has a multi-billion dollar ammunition shortfall. This is something that Congress and the Army must work together to fix. The Army's recent decision to spend $30 million to purchase Black Berets is a poor use of Army money.

Congressman Wamp joined several of his colleagues to co-sponsor H.R. 1770, a bill to prohibit the purchasing, issuing or wearing of berets as standard Army headgear (other than for certain specialized units) until the Secretary of the Army certifies to Congress that the Army ammunition shortfall has been eliminated. "It makes absolutely no sense to purchase these berets at a time when there is not enough ammunition to go around in the Army," Wamp said.

Wamp was also one of the many Members of Congress who spoke out against purchasing these berets from Chinese companies. Recently, the Army reversed that decision due to outspoken opposition from Members of Congress.
