I am confident that the NNSA will continue to be Vigilant in Protecting our Nuclear Weapons Stockpile

January 24, 2002

"U. S. Representative Ed Markey of Massachusetts and groups with an anti-nuclear agenda are using fear tactics to scare Americans into believing that our nuclear facilities are vulnerable and unprotected. These individuals have a long history of opposing the development and maintenance of a nuclear weapons deterrent and they unfortunately are preying on the fears that follow the shock of September 11th. Their statements undermine our national security and erode confidence in our federal government without necessary justification."

"I have been briefed thoroughly and regularly about the increased security measures and procedures put in place since September 11th and I am confident that the National Nuclear Security Administration will continue to be vigilant in protecting our nuclear weapons stockpile and the facilities charged with their stewardship."
