The best message we can send to Americans, young and old, is that abstinence is the only way to prevent pregnancy or contracting a sexually transmitted disease. 

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I strongly supported increased funding for community-based abstinence education programs when the Committee considered the Labor, HHS, and Education Appropriations Act.  This bill provides almost $115 million for abstinence education programs, which is $11 million more than last year.
