Wamp Votes to Ban Partial-Birth Abortions

July 25, 2002

In keeping with his commitment to protect all innocent life, Congressman Wamp voted to ban late term abortions by voting in favor of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2002.

The American Medical Association has concluded that partial-birth abortion is "not an accepted medical practice," while a wealth of other medical research shows that the procedure is practically never medically necessary.

"I am totally opposed to this barbaric procedure and have always supported a ban of partial birth abortions. This bill goes a step further by stipulating that violators will be subject to fines and up to two years in prison," adds Wamp.

According to Wamp, this bill would prohibit the performance of a partial-birth abortion with the only exception being if the procedure was needed to save the life of the mother.

"The little children that die in this awful procedure cannot cry out in their own defense. We must do everything we can to make sure that the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2002 becomes law."
