Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Timothy V. Johnson today announced the award of several individual grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to public television and radio stations around the 15th Congressional District.
The grants are the second installments of the stations’ fiscal year 2006 Community Services Grants.
Recipients in the 15th Congressional District include the following
WEIU, Charleston, $318,581
WILL-TV, Urbana, $425,004
WILL-FM, Urbana, $248,360
WEFT-FM, Champaign, $8,004
WGLT-FM, Normal, $75,744
Rep. Johnson, a member of the House Public Broadcasting Caucus, said the grants are used for the production or acquisition of local and national programming and to strengthen local outreach and educational initiatives.
The funds are distributed according to a statutory formula and are directly affected by the size of the CPB appropriation.
“This funding is critical for many of these stations that are providing essential and informative programming not available anywhere else,” Rep. Johnson said.
