Rep. Johnson Named “National Champion” of American Institute of Architects

Illinois Congressman honored for commitment to communities; sole recipient of award

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson (IL-15) has been recognized as the “National Champion” of the American Institute of Architects.  The AIA awarded Congressman Johnson this distinction based on his desire to implement a study focusing on the impact transportation projects have on community enhancement.

“Transportation projects have a tremendous impact on communities.  I believe that a thorough and efficient community design enhances opportunities for economic development in neighborhoods close to transportation projects,” said Johnson.  I support this study because I believe that the findings will help state and local leaders make wise decisions about transportation projects that will promote economic growth.”

In addition to the proposed transportation and community enhancement study, the American Institute of Architects supports the development of renewable energy sources, the modernizing of school buildings, and providing Association Health Insurance for small businesses.  Rep. Tim Johnson was the sole recipient of the National Champion award.

“The AIA is a strong voice for the architectural profession and I am deeply honored to win their National Champion award.  I look forward to working with them on issues that affect architects in the 15th district of Illinois during the 109th Congress.”
