Committee Assignments

Committees in the House have four primary powers: to conduct hearings and investigations, to draft bills and resolutions and amendments to them, to report legislation to the House for its possible consideration, and to oversee executive branch performance. Committees are integral to the work of Congress in determining the policy needs of the nation and acting on them. Representative Johnson serves on the following committees:

Committee on Agriculture

The Committee on Agriculture oversees the farm bill and rural economic conditions, crop insurance, agricultural trade, commodity futures trading, agricultural research and promotion, conservation, farm credit, welfare and food nutrition programs, and food safety inspection.

Committee on Science

The Science Committee has jurisdiction over all non-defense federal scientific research and development. Federal agencies that fall under the Committee's jurisdiction (either completely or partially) include: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Science Foundation (NSF), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Fire Administration, and U.S. Geological Survey.
