Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson today issued the following statement in response to the ongoing controversy over FBI’s sweep of the offices of U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, who is under investigation for bribery.
"Assuming this investigation was conducted lawfully, and the proper authorities are now ascertaining whether that is the case, I have no objection to search warrants being served for searches of congressional offices. None of us, and that includes most emphatically congressmen, are above the law. Our offices are public offices and all our affairs should be an open book.”
