Rep. Johnson Announces Appropriations

Washington, D.C. -  U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson today announced awards for three area projects that were included in the Transportation, Treasury and HUD Appropriations Bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Under the legislation, Lawrenceville-Vincennes Airport would receive $750,000 for the construction of a new terminal building to house airport operations and services for university flight students. The terminal will replace an outdated facility built in 1964.

The long-planned Normal Multi-Modal Facility would receive another $500,000 from the appropriation. The award comes on top of previous appropriations and transportation grants Rep. Johnson has worked to obtain for the $34 million facility that will serve as a hub for all modes of ground transportation, parking and commercial activities in Downtown Normal. Groundbreaking is planned for 2008.

Also in the appropriation is $250,000 for renovation and expansion of the Bloomington-based Home Sweet Home Ministries, a 90-year-old outreach organization serving the homeless and low-income residents of McLean County.

Award of the projects still awaits Senate action.

Rep. Johnson said he is hopeful the Senate will follow suit.

“These are all worthwhile endeavors serving critical needs of constituents in the respective areas,” Rep. Johnson said. “I’m proud we’ve been able to achieve some level of progress for citizens of the District and I will continue to work to see these efforts through.”
