Tiahrt Supports Earmark Reform Bill
Rules Change Will Bring Greater Transparency to Legislative Process

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) today voted for H. Res. 1003, a rule providing for earmark reform in the U.S. House of Representatives. With his vote, Tiahrt joined with House Republicans in reaffirming his commitment to transparency in the legislative and appropriations process.

“This House rules change will bring greater transparency to the legislative and appropriations process by ensuring that members of Congress are held accountable for their earmarks,” Tiahrt said. “By making these earmarks public, we can help further crack down on wasteful and unnecessary spending.”

The rules changes made by the House will require committees to attach a list of earmarks and their sponsors to each bill under their jurisdiction that comes before the House. Also, when the House and Senate reach agreement on a piece of legislation, a list of any earmarks added to the bill during that negotiation process must be included in the bill before the House votes on it.
