Tiahrt Lauds President for Signing Tax Relief Bill
Bill provides relief to seniors, families, and small businesses

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) today attended the White House Bill Signing Ceremony for H.R. 4297, the Tax Relief Extension Reconciliation Act of 2005. The bill prevents tax increases on small business owners, seniors, and married couples.

“I am pleased President Bush signed into law this important piece of legislation,” said Tiahrt. “This measure will spur continued economic growth by assisting working families currently burdened by unnecessary taxation, seniors living off dividends, and small business owners who will be able to write off business expenses.”

The conference report was agreed to in the House on May 10 and in the Senate on May 11. The bill extends the alternative minimum tax relief, the increased limit on small business expensing, and the low rates on capital gains and dividends. Tiahrt praised the measure for continuing tax policies that have already helped spur the economy.

“By extending this relief, we are maintaining the tax policies that have helped initiate our current economic growth. Since May 2003, our economy has created 5.2 million jobs with 211,000 jobs created in the month of March alone, the GDP increased 3.5 percent in 2005, and the unemployment rate is at a five-year low,” Tiahrt said.
