Tiahrt Honors Gordon Parks
Tiahrt calls Parks "an example of hope, tenacity, courage and accomplishment."

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) is an original co-sponsor of a resolution honoring the late Gordon Parks. U.S. Representative Jim Ryun (R-Lawrence) represents Parks’ hometown of Fort Scott and is the original sponsor of the legislation. In addition to co-sponsoring Ryun’s resolution, Tiahrt also paid tribute to Parks in remarks submitted for the Congressional Record.

“His life was an example of hope, tenacity, courage and accomplishment,” Tiahrt wrote about Parks. “He inspired many with thought-provoking photographs and images as seen through his lenses. He captured the poverty of many Americans, highlighted racism, and made us aware of people largely ignored.

“He also captured inspiring images of beauty and courage that attested to the freedom of the human spirit. Mr. Parks was a man who found beauty nearly everywhere he went. His work told the story of freedom, of breaking boundaries and of hope in difficult times.”
