Energy and Water Appropriations Bill Clears Full Committee
with $2.45 Million for Fourth District
Washington, D.C. –Congressman Christopher Shays (CT-04)
announced the Fiscal Year 2007 Energy and Water Development
Appropriations Bill, which cleared the full House Appropriations
Committee today, includes $2.09 million for key projects in
the Fourth Congressional District. Funding will support work
in Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford and is supported by the
Mayors in each City.
“This is a great next-step for improvements throughout
our District,” Shays said. “These projects will
help us improve energy availability and continue some critical
work on our waterways. The appropriations process is a long
one and I will continue to work to secure this funding.”
Bridgeport
Bridgeport Harbor
$250,000
This appropriation will support a demonstration project that
is focused on disposal of contaminated sediment. The disposal
will allow dredging of Bridgeport Harbor. The project has
been supported by $3 million in federal funding in previous
appropriations cycles.
Stamford
Waste-to-Energy Project
$1,500,000
The funding will support the low-emissions waste-to-energy
electric generation facility that will turn dry, pelletized
sewage sludge into 5 megawatts of electric power in a region
facing major electricity shortages and electric grid congestion.
In previous appropriations cycles, this project has received
$2 million in federal funds.
Mill River
$40,000
The funding was requested to help address ecosystem restoration,
sedimentation, and dredging issues on Mill River. This project
has received $800,000 in federal funding previously.
Norwalk
Norwalk Hospital
$300,000
The funding will support an upgrade to its electrical system
to become more energy self-sufficient. Norwalk Hospital previously
received $100,000 in federal funding.
