Shays Encourages Fourth
District High Schoolers to Enter Congressional Arts Competition
Washington, D.C. –Congressman Christopher Shays (R-CT)
today encouraged Fourth District high school students to ask
their art teachers to enter students' artwork in "An
Artistic Discovery," the 2006 Congressional Arts Competition.
Shays, who has hosted the competition annually for Fourth
District students for 17 years, said, “I encourage high
school students to ask their art teachers about submitting
their artwork to the Congressional Arts Competition. It’s
a great opportunity to showcase your talent and to possibly
win a trip to Washington, D.C.!”
Each high school in the Fourth Congressional District may
submit up to five students’ artwork. The students whose
works are selected by their school have the option to submit
one additional piece of their own choosing.
All participants, along with their families and teachers,
are invited to attend the Artistic Discovery Exhibition and
Reception at the Westport Arts Center at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday,
June 3. Winning entries, selected by judges from the local
arts community, will be announced at the reception.
The winner will receive one round trip train ticket to Washington,
D.C., courtesy of Warren Travel, to attend the national reception
honoring Arts Competition winners from around the country.
The winning artwork hangs for one year beside works from other
Congressional districts in the passageway between the House
office buildings and the United States Capitol.
