Shays Announces Multifamily Housing Service Coordinator Grant for Schoolhouse Apartments

Washington, D.C. -- Congressman Christopher Shays (R-Bridgeport) announced today the New Samaritan/Elderly Housing Management Corporation would receive $156,173 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the Multifamily Housing Service Coordinator program at Schoolhouse Apartments in New Canaan.

The Service Coordinator Program provides funding for the employment and support of Service Coordinators in insured and assisted housing developments that are designed for the elderly, or non-elderly persons with disabilities. Service coordinators help residents obtain supportive services from the community that are needed to enable independent living and aging in place.

“The Multifamily Housing Service Coordinator program provides an important service to New Canaan. I am grateful for this support from the Department of Housing and Urban Development it will help meet the needs of more senior residents of the Fourth District allowing them to remain in their own homes” stated Shays, who helped secure HUD section 8 funds to convert the building to subsidized housing for elderly and disabled more than a decade ago, and is a member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity.
