STATEMENT OF U.S. REPRESENTATIVE SCHAKOWSKY ON THE PASSING OF FORMER SENATOR PAUL SIMON

WASHINGTON, D.C. – “I am saddened today by the loss of Paul Simon, a decent and committed man who dedicated his life to public service.  I join the people of Illinois and those around the country in offering my deepest condolences to his family.

“Paul Simon set the standard of integrity and decency for those who seek the public trust.  He always took the principled position, not the popular one, and never wavered in his fight on behalf of ordinary Americans and working families.  And Paul Simon was a visionary who understood the awesome and constructive role the United States can play around the globe.  He made us proud to call him our Senator.

“Paul Simon has left behind ever-lasting contributions and magnificent accomplishments.  His legacy will live on forever.   He was my friend and my mentor, someone I emulated and learned from for many years.  I am grateful to have worked with Paul Simon.  I will miss him dearly.”
