WASHINGTON,
D.C. – U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued the following statement
on the failure of David Kay, head of the 1200 U.S. inspection team, to
find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq:
“President
Bush forced our nation to war based on an immediate threat that did not
exist. President Bush’s weapons inspector, David Kay, confirmed that
sad reality today when he announced that he has not found any weapons of
mass destruction in Iraq.
“David
Kay is asking for more time and more money to find weapons of mass destruction,
yet President Bush couldn’t wait to invade Iraq because it posed an imminent
threat to our national security. President Bush and his Administration
exaggerated the truth and stretched pre-war intelligence. Sadly,
American soldiers and Iraqi civilians died.
“The
real danger to our national security today is the Bush Administration’s
policies in Iraq that are isolating the United States and placing a heavy
financial burden on American taxpayers.” |
