Arkansas Congressional Delegation AnnouncesClose to $300,000 in Grants for Rural Fire Protection - U.S. Representative Mike Ross (AR-04) along with U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor announced today that rural fire departments in Arkansas have been awarded $298,552 in grants from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

Ross Announces Funding For Bulletproof Vests - U.S. Representative Mike Ross (AR-04) today announced that $25,516 has been secured for Arkansas’s Fourth Congressional District police departments to purchase 108 bulletproof vests. The project’s funding comes from the FY06 Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program.

Skyrocketing Gas Prices: A Plan to Reduce the Price at the Pump -
On Tuesday, President Bush outlined a four-part plan designed to alleviate
escalating gasoline prices: it calls for a Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
investigation into price gouging, the promotion of greater fuel efficiency,
increasing the supply of crude oil and gasoline, and investing in alternative
sources of energy.

Educating America’s Future -
This week, the United States House of Representatives voted on and
debated H.R. 609, the Higher Education Reauthorization Act. I voted
against this legislation because I believe we can do better by America’s
students. This legislation does very little to assist middle and
low income American families pay for college. As parents, educators, and
public officials we have a responsibility to ensure that students from
pre-school to high school and beyond receive the highest quality education
possible in order to provide them with the necessary tools they need to
succeed in today’s complex and technological world.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor America's Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Historically Black Colleges and Universities were not officially recognized by the government until 1964, but these valuable institutions have had a lasting impact on our nation for more than a century.
