Pryce Announces Transportation Grant for Madison County Airport Authority

Funding aids construction of equipment storage facility and drainage improvements at airport

Washington , DC – Today, Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded $302,993 to the Madison County Airport Authority and the County Commissioners for improved drainage at the airport and for the construction of a facility to house the airport’s snow removal equipment.

“I am grateful for this federal investment into the transportation infrastructure of Madison County,” said Pryce. “This funding is important to the maintenance and operations of the airport, and I congratulate Madison County for its successful pursuit of it.”

The airport is experiencing drainage problems. With the USDOT’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding, the airport will re-grade, clear, and extend the ditch along the north side of the airport property to improve drainage in the area. In addition, the airport has recently acquired snow removal equipment; storing the equipment in a protective facility will extend the equipment life and lower maintenance costs.

The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies---and, in some cases, to private owners and entities---for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). Eligible projects include those improvements related to enhancing airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns.
