Congresswoman Pryce: Americans Must Columbus, Ohio – Today, as Americans pause to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Upper Arlington) urged all Americans to live up to the legacy of Dr. King. “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a tireless advocate of equality for all Americans,” Pryce said. “In his short lifetime, Dr. King inspired countless men and women with his fearless stand for justice. It is the responsibility of every American to honor his legacy by ensuring that our country always lives up to our nation’s ideals of liberty and justice for all.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) was a minister from Alabama who rose to national prominence by championing civil rights reform. In November 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed into law a bill designating the third Monday in January as a national holiday to celebrate Dr. King’s life. The holiday was first celebrated in January of 1986. |
