Congresswoman Pryce to Throw out First Pitch at
Sunday’s Indians Game

Pryce invited to participate in MLB’s “Commissioner’s Initiative for Kids”

Cleveland, OH—Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (OH-15) will deliver the ceremonial first pitch in Sunday’s Cleveland Indians game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in Jacobs Field, as part of Major League Baseball’s “Commissioner’s Initiative for Kids Program.”

The Commissioner’s Initiative is an effort to expose Major League Baseball to children who might not otherwise be able to afford to attend games.  The Initiative also aims to raise money for charities that benefit children, including CureSearch – an organization dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer -- and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Congresswoman Pryce was asked to participate by CureSearch for her cancer-related work in Congress and for Hope Street Kids, a charity she founded with Randy Walker in memory of their nine-year-old daughter, Caroline Pryce Walker, who lost a valiant battle against a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma on September 4, 1999. Last year, Pryce received the Congressional Champion Award from CureSearch for securing $1.5 million in federal funds over the last two years to advance the pace of clinical trial research for children with cancer.

Pryce, whose Congressional District includes Madison, Union, and western Franklin County, serves as Chairman of the House Republican Conference for the 109th Congress, making her the fourth ranking member of House leadership.  She also co-chairs the House Cancer Caucus.

On Sunday, children associated with Youth Groups or little league teams will be admitted to the game for $1, and all children fourteen and under will be invited to run the bases following the game.  The discounted ticket price is made possible due to a $1 million donation from Ameriquest Mortgage Company.
