 Pryce: Central Ohio Continues to
Enjoy Indisputable Job Growth

Central Ohio Economy Reaches Full Employment

COLUMBUS, OH – Today, Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus) hailed yesterday’s news that central Ohio unemployment has dropped to 4.4% and below the low national average of 4.6%.

“Most economists define full employment as anything under 5% – central Ohio fits that definition comfortably. Nationally, the Dow remains above 12,000, economic growth remains up, our deficit is shrinking amid historic tax receipts, and workers’ wages continue to grow. From Wall Street to Main Street, our economy is rolling.”

“ Columbus was recently named the 7 th strongest economy in the nation. Earlier this week, we celebrated our $120 million federal investment in the Heartland Corridor and Rickenbacker Intermodal projects, which are expected to create 20,000 new jobs in central Ohio, and infuse more than $15 billion into our economy over the next 20 years. Clearly, central Ohio’s strong economy is only gaining steam.”

“Unfortunately, many in Washington aim to roll back the same tax cuts and incentives that have led to the creation of 6.6 million jobs in three years, 19 consecutive quarters of economic growth, and record levels of federal revenues deriving from the same tax cuts. The most significant hurdle facing our growing American economy is the zeal among some to tax it into submission.”

September unemployment in Pryce’s three-county 15 th district:

Franklin: 4.5%
Madison: 4.9%
Union: 4%
