Pryce: Economy Continues to Thrive

Consumer Prices Fall, Wages Rise

Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus) today pointed to newly released economic data as further proof that the policies of lower taxes and fiscal restraint are helping to boost the economy.  The U.S. Department of Labor announced today that consumer prices fell in September by the largest amount in ten months and that average weekly earnings rose from August to September.

“The fact that consumer prices are decreasing and wages are increasing is further proof that our economy is flourishing.  Last week, we learned that the deficit declined dramatically in fiscal year 2006, cutting the deficit in half three years ahead of schedule.  The week before, we learned that our economy created 51,000 jobs in September, the 37 th straight month of job creation.  And over the past several weeks, the Dow has been reaching record highs.  This great economic news underscores why proposals to increase taxes would be harmful to working families and harmful to the economy.

“The robust economic growth we’ve experienced over the past three years has been fueled by the tax relief and economic policies I have supported.  Thanks to the tax relief we’ve passed, hardworking Americans have been able to keep more of their hard-earned money and businesses have been able to grow and create jobs.  A Democrat-controlled Congress would allow the tax relief we’ve passed to expire, resulting in a tax hike of more than $2,000 on the average family of four.  I am determined to make sure that doesn’t happen, and will continue to work to make the tax relief we’ve passed permanent and ensure that all Americans have access to the benefits of our thriving economy.”
