Pryce Hails Tougher Tools Against Iran

Washington , DC – Yesterday, Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus) applauded House passage of H.R. 6198, the Iran Freedom Support Act, legislation providing enhanced diplomatic tools to deal with Iran.

“The growing hostility and heightened rhetoric coming out of Iran require tougher diplomatic tools,” said Pryce. “The Iran Freedom Support Act gives America the necessary leverage to avert a crisis with Iran, and sends a strong message to any nation wishing to feed Iran’s growing appetite for weapons of mass destruction. Today’s vote is important and appropriate diplomatic counterbalance to Iran’s saber rattling and antagonism, and will aid in the stability of the Middle East region.”

The Iran Freedom Support Act will provide the Administration with the strong tools it needs to work toward a diplomatic solution to the Iran crisis, and gives the President new authority to assist pro-democracy elements within Iran. The bill also raises the threshold necessary for the President to waive sanctions against Iran, and provides additional sanctions the United States can employ against financial institutions involved in money-laundering or helping to proliferate WMD or missiles.
