Pryce: Women’s Health Week a Time to Urge Mothers, Sisters, and Daughters to Get Important Health Screenings

Washington – House Republican Conference Chairman Deborah Pryce (R-Ohio), one of Congress’ leading advocates for women’s health, said National Women’s Health Week is a time to raise awareness of the unique health needs of women and stress the importance of preventive health screenings.

“National Women’s Health Week is a good time for everyone to urge the important women in their life to get preventive health screenings and talk to their doctors about the steps they need to take to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” Pryce said.  “Our mothers, sisters, aunts, and our wives all stand to gain when we promote healthy living and raise awareness of important medical information and resources.  House Republicans have been leaders in passing health care legislation designed to meet the needs of women, and we will continue to make women’s health care a priority.”

National Women’s Health Week, which will be celebrated May 14-20 this year, was established to raise awareness of the health issues women face and to encourage women to take steps to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  The Department of Health and Human Services’ National Women’s Health Week website lists local events across the country that people can participate in to celebrate this week.  The website is located at http://www.4woman.gov/whw/.
