Pryce Takes Stand Against Childhood Cancer

WASHINGTON , D.C. –Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Upper Arlington) today stood with those on the front lines of the battle against childhood cancer to introduce the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act of 2006.

“One child who suffers from cancer is one too many,” Pryce said.  “The legislation we are introducing today will bring us closer to our goal of eradicating pediatric cancer.  We must work together to find a cure.  We’re introducing the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act today so that one day soon, there won’t be a need for this bill.”

Among other things, the Childhood Cancer Act of 2006 will do the following:

  • Provide increased support for biomedical research programs into pediatric cancer;

    Establish a childhood cancer database to help researchers identify genetic causes of pediatric cancer and develop prevention strategies;

    Authorize the development, construction, and operation of a comprehensive online information system to provide patients and their families with information on childhood cancer and cancer support services; and

  • Establish a fellowship program in pediatric cancer research to encourage young researchers to focus on pediatric oncology.
