Congresswoman Pryce Announces Identity Theft Workshops in Hilliard, Grove City

COLUMBUS, OH-- On Monday, March 27th, Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Upper Arlington) will host workshops in Hilliard and Grove City to discuss tools and resources available to citizens to fight identity theft.

Congresswoman Pryce is the lead cosponsor of legislation to protect consumer information from theft and create federal standards by which companies would secure their customers’ data.  The bill also creates a national, uniform process by which companies must notify customers after a data breach has occurred.  She will be joined by officials from the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Social Security Administration and local police departments to provide anyone interested with information on how to avoid becoming victimized by identity theft, telemarketing and mail scams, and credit card fraud. The events are open to everyone, and no appointment is necessary.

“Identity theft is the fastest-growing white collar crime in the United States,” said Pryce. “What takes only seconds for a hacker to destroy can take years and thousands of dollars for an individual to rebuild. I encourage anyone concerned with protecting their good name to attend this workshop, and to learn how to avoid becoming one of the millions of victims of identity theft.”

For more information about the workshops, please call the District Office of Congresswoman Pryce at (614) 469-5614.
