San Francisco – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today supporting a Federal Mediator’s recommendation for settlement of the dispute between SEIU United Healthcare Workers – West and Sutter Health Hospitals:

“The Federal Mediator's recommendation for settlement contains compromises that both parties must be willing to accept in order to arrive at fair contract. The caregivers represented by SEIU have accepted it as fair, reasonable and balanced, and so should Sutter in order to avert a strike.

“The impartial mediator’s recommendation provides caregivers with a real voice in staffing decisions to ensure that patients come first, establishes a training fund to meet their education and training needs, and guarantees that patient care dollars will not be wasted fighting employees who wish to join the union.

“I support the mediator’s recommendation and urge Sutter and its affiliated hospitals to accept it and put this dispute behind us.”
