BROOKLYN, NY -- October 11, 2005 -- "It is with deep sympathy that I extend my condolences to the people of Pakistan and Kashmir who have suffered such catastrophic losses in the aftermath of the recent earthquake to have hit the region. I am especially saddened that the biggest casualties of this disaster have been children. As a result of this, an entire generation of young people have been wiped out. Amid the horrific scenes of death, destruction and destitution that have been broadcast on American television, I applaud the bravery of ordinary citizens in the rescue effort. I call upon the White House to do as much as possible in assisting in the rebuilding efforts. I stand ready to assist in any way I can."
