BAM GAINS IN LATEST FEDERAL APPROPRIATIONS Owens brings in over a million in aid to noted Brooklyn institutionBrooklyn, NY - (January 8, 2005) - For the second year Congressman Major Owens has secured funds to assist Brooklyn's finest and the one of the nation's oldest performing arts center with a federal appropriation of $1,069,000. BAM will use $310,000 for its juvenile delinquency programs, $75,000 for the preservation and management of its archives, $194,000 for the design, construction and streetscape improvements and $490,000 for its educational programs. "The Brooklyn Academy of Music has been a leading urban arts organization working over the years to uplift the lives of young people through arts education. I am dedicated to provide an avenue that would give young people all the opportunities to increase their knowledge in the performing arts. I hope this award will allow BAM to continue to work with juveniles using the performing arts for social development and to preserve its facilities, " Owens said.
