OWENS REELS IN $2 MILLION + TO 11TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

BROOKLYN, NY - (January 8, 2005) - Congressman Major Owens today announced that he has delivered $2, 377, 000 in the most recent federal appropriation to various local organizations in the 11th Congressional District.

"These funds reflect my ongoing commitment to support programs that strengthen the fabric of our community," Owens said.  "These appropriations are among the best investments we make at the federal level. They improve the deliverables, improve the quality of our local education and creative institutions and enhance the livability of our communities."

The Brooklyn Arts Council received $100,000 for its arts in education program, the Brooklyn Academy of Music scored big with $310, 000 for its juvenile delinquency programs, $75,000 for the preservation and management of its archives, $194,000 for the design, construction and street scape improvements and $490, 000 for its educational programs.  The Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza will receive $700,000 with an additional $121,000 awarded for the renovation and development of the Library's Central Plaza. The Fifth Avenue Committee's $97,000 will be used by its Center for Community Development for a new computer lab, New York ACORN received $140,000 for its Youth Union and the New York Methodist Hospital will use its $150,000 for a patient follow-up program.
