WASHINGTON, D.C. – Secretary of Veterans Affairs James Nicholson announced today that the VA health system would retain the VA hospitals in both Manhattan and Brooklyn. Congressman Jerrold Nadler, who testified last September in favor of retention of both sites, released the following statement:
“Secretary Nicholson made the right decision. Both the Manhattan and Brooklyn medical centers are absolutely essential to veterans’ care in New York.
“Many of our young men and women are now serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the demand for care is only going to increase. We need a modern, broadly accessible system in place, and that means keeping both the Manhattan and Brooklyn hospitals open.”
