Internships
< Back to Services
Working in a Congressional office can be an incredibly rewarding and exciting experience. An internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience, and observe first-hand how our government operates. Interns gain practical work experience by undertaking a variety of administrative and legislative responsibilities in the office.

Our interns in the Washington office draft constituent correspondence, attend briefings and Congressional hearings, and prepare memoranda for me and members of my staff. Interns in the District Office conduct research, assist with constituent casework and draft correspondence. Interns in both offices assist with answering phones, data entry and general office systems operations.

Internships are available expressly for the purpose of furthering educational objectives, therefore they are unpaid and usually awarded to students in college. Selection is based on an applicant's general office and computer experience, interview, and a short writing sample. Priority is given to applicants from Michigan's 12th congressional district, although all interested persons are encouraged to apply. Our offices accept interns year round. Please direct your resume and any questions that you may have to the office in which you would like to intern.
