Madison reverend to serve as Guest Chaplain in the

U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday

(Washington, DC)  --  U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-Concord) today announced that the Rev. William Alvey of Madison Park United Methodist Church will be the guest chaplain in the United States House of Representatives on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004.

Alvey will open the House of Representatives with prayer at 10 a.m. Thursday, and his prayer will be broadcast live on C-SPAN and be included in that day’s official Congressional Record. LaTourette sponsored Alvey as a guest chaplain and Alvey’s visit was approved by the Rev. Daniel P. Coughlin, Chaplain of the House of Representatives. The guest chaplain leads the chamber in prayer before legislative business for the day begins.

"It’s a privilege to welcome Rev. Alvey to our nation’s capital, and I know he’ll be a wonderful guest chaplain," LaTourette said. "I’m looking forward to seeing so many folks from the Madison area, and I know all those familiar faces in the House Gallery will make Rev. Alvey feel right at home."

Alvey is in his 41st year with the United Methodist Church and has been at Madison Park United Methodist since 1995.

LaTourette said Alvey will be traveling to Washington on Wednesday with 47 people from the community.
