Stow firm awarded multi-million dollar contract from
Army for Black Hawk helicopter brakes

(Washington, DC)  --  U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-Concord Township) today announced that National Machine Company of Stow has been awarded an initial $1.16 million contract from the U.S. Army to produce disc brakes for Black Hawk helicopters.  The contract could total more than $6.2 million over the next four years.

LaTourette said the contract specifies that National Machine will produce the brakes beginning on May 6, 2005, with an estimated contract completion date of May 31, 2009.  The initial award will be $1,161,715, and the estimated total for the duration of the contract is $6,247,888.   LaTourette said the firm will produce 821 disc brake systems in the first year of the contract, and more than 3,800 brakes over the duration of the contract.

“I thank the Army for selecting National Machine, and it’s great that a local company will provide this important equipment for our troops,” LaTourette said.  “It’s always welcome news when a Northeast Ohio company can boast about a manufacturing success.”

The Black Hawk is the Army’s front-line utility helicopter used for air assault, air cavalry, and medical evacuations.  It can carry 11 combat-loaded, air assault troops, and it is capable of moving a 105-millimeter howitzer and 30 rounds of ammunition.

LaTourette said National Machine, located at 4880 Hudson Road in Stow, manufactures aircraft wheels and brakes, landing gear and military products.
