LaTourette announces winners of
Congressional High School Art Contest

(Washington, DC)  --  U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-Concord Township) today announced that Natalie Arthur of Concord Township, a senior at Mentor High School, has won this year’s Congressional high school art contest — An Artistic Discovery.

Natalie, 18, submitted a colored pencil worked called “Chandelier,” and her work was chosen as the winning entry among 31 submissions from high schools throughout the 14th Congressional District.  The students’ artwork was judged by Chris Berry, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at Lakeland Community College.  LaTourette said Berry was not able to see the students’ names or schools when judging the artwork.

LaTourette said Arthur’s colored pencil drawing will hang in a corridor of the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with winning entries from other congressional districts across the country.  The second place winner’s work will hang in LaTourette’s Washington, DC, office, and the third-place work will be displayed in LaTourette’s Painesville office.  All the artwork was featured at a show at Lakeland earlier this spring.

Second place went to senior Brandon Templeton, a senior at Cardinal High School.  Templeton, 18, of Middlefield, entered an acrylic painting called “Mission Accomplished.”  Third place went to Katie Wentz, a senior at Aurora High School.  Wentz, 18, entered a black and white pencil piece called “Musical Penguin.”
