SPRINGFIELD AND QUINCY FIRE DEPARTMENTS AWARDED $146,646 IN HOMELAND SECURITY GRANTS

(Peoria, IL)—Congressman Ray LaHood (R-Peoria) announced today that the Springfield Fire Department and the Quincy Fire Department have been awarded funds under the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters grant program.  This is the 36th round of grant announcements that have been made from the fiscal year 2004 funding.

The Springfield Fire Department will receive $86,100 to help improve their Emergency Services and Disaster Assistance (ESDA) siren system.  The Quincy Fire Department will be granted $60,546 to aid in the purchase and installation of an exhaust removal system for their facility.

"The men and women of the Springfield and Quincy fire departments have been instrumental in protecting and safeguarding our neighborhoods for many years," said Congressman LaHood. "In return, we have a responsibility to ensure that our firefighters have the resources and protections needed to keep our communities safe.  The Assistance to Firefighters program has been very successful over the past few years, and I am glad that Congress has been able to provide the funding needed so our fire departments can be better equipped, better trained, and better prepared to respond to emergencies.”
