Many of us heard of an incident here in Northern Illinois at a recent funeral for a fallen American in the war on terror.

A group of extremists who belive our country should suffer because of gay rights chose to disrupt the grieving family's services. Their demonstration during a soldier's funeral went beyond poor judgment and bad taste.

Yesterday, Republicans and Democrats joined to overwhelmingly pass the Fallen Heroes Act. This bipartisan legislation is intended to ensure peace for the families during a funeral for Americans who wore the uniform. It is a troubling sign of the times when a right-wing extremist group must be held back from deepening a grieving family's loss.
