Currently sixty-six young men and women are appointed by their Member of
Congress to serve as pages in the U.S. House of Representatives. Forty-four
slots are reserved for Republican pages.
Pages in the U.S. House of Representatives are responsible for a number
of tasks and primarily serve as messengers for Members of Congress and congressional
staff. Pages must be 16 years of age and juniors in high school. In
addition, all candidates must have at least a cumulative grade point average
of a "B" (3.0 or 85/100) or better in the five major subject areas. Applicants
also must submit an essay as well as three letters of recommendation.
There are two summer sessions and two school year sessions (Fall and Spring). During
the school year, pages are required to attend classes. All pages are
required to live by a strict code of conduct and receive money for their
time as a page. Pages live in the page residence hall, just a few blocks
from the United States Capitol.
The U.S. House of Representatives Republican Page Program is administered
through the Office of the Speaker of the House. While all pages are
selected by the Speaker's office, applicants must first submit a completed
application to their Member of Congress for review and recommendation.
Page applications for the Fall 2006/ Spring 2007 sessions are currently available. Completed
applications are due in my Washington office by May 15. If you are interested in applying for a page position,
please contact my Washington office for
an application form and information sheet.
