President Calvin Coolidge once said, "The nation which forgets its defenders will itself be forgotten."  Americans must always remember and honor the commitment and sacrifices of our nation's veterans that allow us today to live under a blanket of freedom and security.  Millions of young men and women sacrificed their lives, health, safety and dreams to ensure that our great nation always prospers, and it is a debt of gratitude that will never be fully paid.

As the representative of one of the nation's largest veterans communities, Congressman Hefley consistently champions legislation that honors and respects America's veterans.  When today's senior veterans began their military service they were promised a life-time of healthcare services; Congressman Hefley believes that promise ought to be honored and fulfilled.  He is the lead sponsor of legislation to build a new, state-of-the-art veterans hospital on the campus of the new University of Colorado Health Science Center, and he has fought for legislation to improve the quality and access of veterans' healthcare.
