America is the greatest nation in the world due, in large part, to the efforts and sacrifices of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.  Our troops have a distinguished record of service to our country and have valiantly safeguarded the freedoms that make our nation so strong.  In recent missions ranging from Desert Storm to Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Armed Forces have represented the U.S. in an exemplary manner, and it is imperative that our military troops have every resource they need to defend our freedom.

As a 16-year member of the Armed Services Committee, Hefley consistently advocates for a robust national defense.  He is the chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee and is responsible for the readiness and preparedness of military personnel, military housing and construction, and the operation and maintenance of all military bases.  He is a champion of improving the quality of life for the American soldier and has succeeded in this endeavor by passing legislation to expand healthcare services, increase pay and improve military housing facilities.
