San Luis High School Student Winner of 2006 Congressional Art Competition
Tucson, AZ- Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva has announced San Luis High School art student, Jazmin Jacuinde, the winner of the 2006 Congressional Art Competition: An Artistic Discovery. The painting, A Hand for Famines, was chosen as the art work to represent Congressional District 7.
Jazmin will be among hundreds of students who will be flown to Washington, D.C. to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony in the Cannon Tunnel on Wednesday, June 28th.
“This is a great opportunity for Jazmin and her family to show the nation the talent that exists among our students,” said Grijalva. “As a big supporter of our artistic community, I cannot stress the importance of encouraging students to participate in artistic forms of expression”.
Southwest Airlines will provide Jazmin and her family with three round-trip tickets from Tucson to Washington, D.C. Jazmin will then have an opportunity to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony in the Cannon Tunnel on Wednesday, June 28th. The artwork will hang in the Cannon Tunnel for one year. All other entries will be displayed in the both the Tucson District and Washington, D.C. offices for a period of one year (with artist approval).
Since the competition was created in 1982, hundreds of thousands of high school students have participated. The Congressional Art Competition is sponsored by the Congressional Art Caucus and coordinated by members of the United States House of Representatives.
