Raleigh Veterans Day Parade

North Carolina National Guard members and their families enjoyed sights and sounds of the annual Raleigh Veterans Day Parade. The Adjutant General, MG William E. Ingram, Jr, was the keynote speaker. This year featured a float for Operation Kids on Guard, and an Apache Helicopter flyover.

Carolina Panthers Honor Veterans during Special Ceremony

On Tuesday October 24th, several N.C. Army and Air Guard members were invited to a special ceremony by the Carolina Panthers honoring Military Veterans. The program dubbed, "Operation Welcome Home", headed by the Carolina's NFL team, was the first time North and South Carolina-based veterans were honored by the Panthers. Throughout the day, members all branches of service were treated like royalty at the Bank of America Stadium. Several Players were on hand to greet and ask questions of their own heroes. Members were given a tour of the Stadium, including the Panthers locker room, several suites, and a question and answer session with players.

B Battery, 5-113th Field Artillery's Welcome Home Ceremony in Winston

The North Carolina Army National Guard's B Battery, 5-113th Field Artillery took place at the First Assembly of God, Winston-Salem Friday, Oct. 27.  The nearly 170 Soldiers were mobilized Aug. 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Soldiers completed force protection missions and combat escort recovery patrols in support of forces operating at Logistics Support Area Anaconda. Twenty-Eight Soldiers earned the Bronze Star for “heroic or meritorious achievement or service, not involving participation in aerial flight, while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States or while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force”. Approximately 24 of the Soldiers earned the Combat Action Badge for “actively engaging or being engaged by the enemy”. One Soldier was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds in action and is being treated at Walter Reed Hospital, however made a surprise appearance at the ceremony. SPC Nicholas Firth was given special recognition and hugs from his comrades during the ceremony. The contributions of the North Carolina National Guard to the security of our nation have increased significantly since September 11, 2001.  B Battery, 5-113th exemplified this continued commitment during their deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Nearly 200 Soldiers of the North Carolina National Guards 252nd Combine Arms Battalion (CAB), Headquartered in Fayetteville, deployed to Arizona for a two week rotation supporting US Customs and Border Protection Service’ Border Patrol,  along the Mexican border as part of “Operation Jump Start”.
