Valuation Tables For Computing
Monthly Retired Pay
The attached point valuation tables
show approximate amounts of Military Retired Pay for Reserve members completing
20 or more years
of qualifying service and attaining age
60. These point valuation tables are based
on the basic pay rate as of January 1, 2001 and assume the member entered
the service prior to September 8, 1980. Considering the many other service-connected
privileges afforded Retired Reserve members, the advantages of remaining
in the Reserves until qualified for retirement are obvious. The exact amount
of retired pay will be computed at the time of retirement and will be based
on grade, years of service, accumulated retirement points and the basic
pay rate in effect at that time as adjusted by the Consumer Price Index
(CPI), if applicable. There are two sets of monthly retirement pay tables
following the point valuation tables. They reflect estimated retired pay
for those entering military service prior to September 8, 1980 and
on or after September 8, 1980.
In the following tables, an O-5 with over 22 years
of service would use the factor .41394. Assuming that he or she had accrued
3,100 points during his or her tenure of service and had attained age 60,
his or her estimated retirement pay would be computed by adding the amounts
for 3,000 points ($1,241.83) and 100 points ($41.39) for a total of $1,237.46
per month. Similarly, an E-7 with over 26 years of service would use the
factor .22558. If he or she accrued 3,500 points and attained age 60, his
or her monthly estimated retirement pay would be $789.55.
It is important to remember that Reserve retired pay is computed at
the time the Reservist turns 60 and is based
on active duty basic pay at that time.
